Michael J. Brown Social Security and Veterans Disability Lawyer

Mr. Brown was a graduate of the Widener University Delaware School of Law and completed his undergraduate work at the Camden campus of Rutgers University. Like most of his classmates, he worked his way through college, in his case, as a hotel desk clerk, and as a night auditor. This experience led to his first career managing, at various times, hotel rooms, beverage and banquet services. It was there where he, as a young college graduate, learned negotiation skills, crisis management, and serving customers with high expectations while delivering on a deadline.

Upon graduation from law school, he worked in the Philadelphia law firm of Margolis, Edelstein, Scherlis, Sarowitz & Kraemer. There he practiced in the area of personal injury and product liability. He later took a position as a claims adjudicator with the New Jersey Division of Disability Determination Services (DDS).

Part of the responsibility of Claims Adjudicators is to work closely with physicians, psychiatrists, and psychologists to render an accurate decision on each claim. Michael, never satisfied with his current knowledge level, would go into work an hour early each day, grab a file, and “find a physician’s brain to pick”. The knowledge he gained from this “medical school” gave him unique insight on, not only his clients’ diagnoses and complaints but how these medical problems and limitations impact their daily lives. Sometimes folks have been in pain and have dealt with physical limitations for so long, and have made so many adjustments to their lifestyles; they forget how it is to live “normally”. His insight was invaluable in his case presentations to Social Security.

Michael was also a VA-accredited attorney and a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR), the Camden County Bar Association and the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates (NOVA).
